Sean Flinn - One Track Mind mp3 feature
This review says it all: ”Back in mid-October, Sean Flinn and the Royal We self-released one of the most elegant and self-assured debuts of 2010, the self-released Write Me A Novel. Beginning with the opening “Patient Heart,” Flinn leads his Oregonian bandmates through eleven tracks of melodious and bittersweetly romantic indie-pop, taking on each song with measured breaths and thoughtful production.

Like a Siren on the rocks, Write Me A Novel is the sort of album which slowly draws listeners in without them ever realizing they’ve already been overtaken, and “Patient Heart” provides this experience in microcosm. Beginning with tenderly strummed strings and Flinn’s gentle croon, the song slyly introduces new elements–the beginnings of a drum beat, a shy keyboard chord, a reverberating guitar note–until it is suddenly in full stride. Female harmonies underpin Flinn’s vocals, lifting them up from below and carrying them through the air while the guitar steps to the fore with a twangy interjection.
As quickly as it all seemingly came together, the reverie is then broken with a final cymbal crash–the whole thing dissipating into the ether as though it had never existed at all. “Patient Heart” is charming in the truest sense of the word, a song that effortlessly wraps its arms around the listener. Luckily for us, there are ten more tracks where “Patient Heart” came from.” -Danny DeZayas / One Track Mind
